Schar

De schar komt in het algemeen voor langs de Nederlandse kust, in de Noordoost-Atlantische Oceaan, de Oostzee en de Noordzee. Het is familie van de schollen en leeft, net als schol, op een zanderige bodem. De vis voedt zich met schelpdieren en wormen. Dat betekent dat de schar ook een concurrent is van de schol, want die voedt zich met dezelfde prooien. De schar wordt maximaal 45 centimeter lang en tot 1 kg zwaar. De ogen van de schar zitten aan de rechterkant van het lichaam. Omdat deze vis in Nederland niet veel gegeten wordt, is de meeste vangst voor export richting Japan.

Schar is een magere en smakelijke vis, waarvan de smaak overeenkomt met tong. De schar is goed om mee te bakken of te stoven en is ook gerookt verkrijgbaar. Deze vis wordt meestal als hele vis verkocht.
